The region

Picturesque Papigo is 62 km from Ioannina and it is built 980 metres above the sea level. It consists of two settlements, Mikro and Megalo Papigo. Because of their natural beauty they have been described by the Authorities in charge as preserved. The two settlements have a fascinating view to Astraka (2436 metres) and Vikos canyon. Papigo became woldwide known in 1988 when the Meeting of the Ministers of the European Union took place.

The houses as well as the churches, the narrow streets, the fountains etc are built of white stone with the fantastic architecture from Zagori. The picture of the houses in combination with the natural environment is a unique experience for the visitor.
