The foundation

From the historical records of I.B.E.

The Research Foundation on Northern Epirus (I.B.E.) is a Scientific - Cultural Center of Research and Promotion of the Northern Epirus. It is a legal entity (247/74 decision of the court of Ioannina), and it is located in Ioannina since 1975.

There is an 11 member Administrative Council that runs it and that council is changed every 2 years, in accordance with the Statutes. The Foundation is organised according to modern patterns and like big Cultural Centers.

In the structure of the Foundation there is a Secretariat, a Public Affairs' Office and an Accounts Department. There is also: Cultural Events Department, Library and Publication Department, Historical, Ethnological and Folklore Records Department, Exhibitions Department and also Research Department (History, Ethnology, Linguistics, Folklore, etc.).

Among the members and colleagues, there are scientists of different specialties. Its income is based on private offerings and donations as well as governmental aid.

The foundation is housed in a 220 square meters apartment, which is a donation of "Stavros Sp. Niarchos" foundation.

Further more the foundation has another apartment (105 square meters) in Ioannina (10 Har. Trikoupi st.) and an apartment of 75 square meters in Athens (15 Derigni & Patision st.) which is a donation of the worth remembering benefactress Eli Pashidou, who came from Northern Epirus.

In addition, the collections are of significant value as well as the records and the folklore and historical material about Northern Epirus that the Foundation owns, which is very big in number and size. The offices, which are staffed by remunerated personnel, are open daily morning to afternoon.

Why the Research Foundation on Northern Epirus was founded:

In order to cover a big gap at the cultural Greek field, a gap that appeared as a result of an artificial isolation of Northern Epirus and the absence of free speech.
In order to recall Northern Epirus to the minds and hearts of the Greek people, as formed by its glorious history, its cultural relics and its treasures, its spiritual presence, its important offer in today's reality and its battles and most of all the scientifically proved historic truth.

What its aims are:

To create and promote the circumstances that will always remind the great injustice that took place against the part of our Country that is called Epirus.

To gather, research and promote every piece of evidence that has to do with the Hellenism of the Northern Epirus, based on scientific methods and means and with only purpose the presentation of the Racial, Ethnographic, Cultural, Historical and Geographical unity of Epirus, that foreign propaganda methodically tries to dispute.
