Papigo is one of the most beautiful villages in Zagoria. Papigo is 62 klm from Yannena and it is built 980 metres obove the sea level. The village is known since the 14th century and is divided into two districts: Megalo and Mikro Papigo.
In the 16th century the population increased because different small districts of the region were joined together. Many benefactors come from this village and they endowed it with buildings, mansions, churches and schools.
Papigo is built at the foot of Astraka and offers an amazing view to the unique Vikos canyon. The square, the churches, the schools, the houses with gates and stone fountains are all built with a traditional Epirus architecture and they give a special character to the village.
